Creating Caring and Safe Youth-Centered Communities

"If our nation is going to continue to provide positive influence on world affairs, we must teach our children about a different world and to appreciate the importance of their own leadership on the world stage. We cannot return to "business as usual." Our young people will be the major players in our future, and must be included in any vision of how to build that future. Let our children become the ambassadors for making a better world. So, not only can such an environment be created, it must be created…now more than ever.
We consider this effort to be the job of the entire community."

Gary Goldman, Kidzamerica

"To be a champion for our young people and be a catalyst for creating sustainable schools, communities, and cities through a dynamic process that empowers youth and adults to become leaders in their own lives, and partners in service to their own communities."

Kidzamerica is a youth-centered organization, which has a vision of nationwide Youth-Centered Communities (YC2) in order to realize the mission of a Youth Empowerment Movement (YEM. The focus of the organization is on empowering and connecting young people to a powerful purpose in their own lives and in service to their communities so they will grow confident as contributors to a more caring and safe community.

The Youth Empowerment Movement (YEM) seeks to more fully engage youth in helping to energize and shape the future prosperity of this great nation. Youth must be challenged to not be satisfied with the current state of their community and to seek ways to improve the lives of their fellow citizens. Young people are our future and must be included in any vision of how to build that future.

"We must give voice to the enormous power of America's youth through youth-adult partnerships to lead the way to 21st century schools and a greater quality of life in our communities, nation, and the world."

To accomplish this ambitious goal, Kidzamerica has the following four main objectives:
  1. Bring adults and youth together through community outreach and linkages with youth organizations and schools to create a caring learning environment where young people can personally develop and build critical life, problem solving and decision making skills;
  2. Build trust and open dialogue between youth and adults, involving them as co-designers and planners through leadership activities, workshops, forums, and projects that reflects individual and community strengths and values, resulting in more caring, safe and sustainable communities;
  3. Design and facilitate youth-centered community forums and community celebrations that translate youth's skills into creative vehicles of engagement where they can confront local, national, and global issues and experiment with real world dialogue and decision-making in partnership with adults; and
  4. Develop and cultivate youth's creativity in real-life problem solving and decision making situations, through joint planning and implementation of community betterment projects, using their own self-determined approaches to clarifying universal values and shaping the solutions.
